| With 'Little Orphan Annie' from the Navajo reservation. She came to me with her half-sister, Chaco, from the Navajo Reservation when she was only 3 months old. Somewhere along the line she had lost her mother. They were both half starved and very shy. January 2001 |
| A word about this site from Our founder. |
| We hope you will find this site informative and evocative. I am the founder of Cimarron Sky-Dog Reserve, Jackie Fleming, and I am afraid I am a bit of a computer ‘dummy’. I don’t know a .com from an .org or a blog and I still don’t know what a Raspberry, no a Strawberry…no! A Blackberry is! I also think an I-pod is a character from a Star Trek movie. Anyway, I think you get the picture. Please excuse our somewhat ‘old fashioned’ way of doing things. I do feel like a woman trapped here from a different century and since I will mostly be the one on the other end of the e-mail or the phone (a land-line of course) then I apologize in advance! My brain only really understands and recognizes the tactile and tangible and even though modern technology is miraculous, it doesn’t come naturally to me. To feel the breath of a horse on your face, to touch its coat, the smell of the air after it has rained and the sight of a neverending view that reaches to far horizons is what I understand most. I like to do things via ‘snail-mail’ (hand- written is my favorite) whenever possible and I still use film in my camera. I suppose one of the things about the past that I find most attractive though, the thing that makes me feel most nostalgic is that there was so much more wild and open land back then. Wild horses could roam for miles in huge herds without the need for round-ups and population control and I mourn the fact that that time is long passed.
We hope you will use this site to gather information on what we are about but feel free to call up with any questions, to volunteer to sponsor one of our horses or to place an order on either a book or a piece of artwork. Since some of our art is sometimes hanging up in shows it is probably wise to call us on its availability anyway. We will try to keep this site updated but again, please bare with us and try not to judge our sincere mission and hard work by the sophistication of our web-site, or should I say by the person who is trying to decipher all of its bells and whistles on the other end! I do answer e-mails though so don’t be afraid to drop me a line the cyber way too! Thanks for stopping by and we hope you enjoy our horses. Jackie Fleming |
